Like you

I heard this song on the radio and quickly Shazammed the last 2 seconds of it.

Drunk Like You - The Cadillac Three

Sitting at the bar with a shot and a cold beer, neither one's doing the job
In through the swinging door, straight to the dance floor, intoxicating, there you are
Addiction is a crazy thing
Oh, what you do to me
Nothing gets me drunk like you
Even whiskey can't do what you do when you kiss me that way
That black label lipstick, ninety proof hits quick top shelf tangled in my veins
It's dangerous, I want to drink you on up
Can't get enough, keep filling up my cup
Nothing gets me drunk like you
Nothing gets me drunk like you, yeah
Girl, you make a fellow want to tie one on, I'm talking dizzy tangled up in the sheets
Sip, sip, sip you, baby, ‘til you're gone, and then hang over all over me
Hang over all over me
'Cause, nothing gets me drunk like you, even whiskey can't do what you do when you kiss me that way
That black label lipstick, ninety proof hits quick top shelf tangled in my veins
It's dangerous I wanna drink you on up
Can't get enough
Keep filling up my cup
Nothing gets me drunk like you
Oh nothing gets me drunk like you, yeah
Oh
Oh, nothing gets me drunk like you, even whiskey can't do what you do when you kiss me that way
That black label lipstick, ninety proof hits quick top shelf tangled in my veins
Nothing gets me drunk like you, even whiskey can't do what you do when you kiss me that way
That black label lipstick, ninety proof hits quick top shelf tangled in my veins
It's dangerous, I want to drink you on up
Can't get enough, keep filling up my cup
Nothing gets me drunk like you
Nothing gets me drunk like you, yeah
Oh, it's dangerous
Nothing gets me drunk like you
Nothing gets me drunk like you

Beautiful places

I had a cute conversation recently.

A friend and I got on the topic of the most beautiful things we've ever seen in person.

As far as physical places, I came up with a few off the top of my head. I would not consider myself a well traveled person, but I've seen some pretty amazing things.

One, Cancun.

Two, some of the flights I've taken.

Third, Kansas sunsets.

Fourth, Colorado.

Close enough

I had a pretty cute playdate with a 2-year-old over the weekend.

When we lined her stuffed animals up, she surprised me by counting them.

"One, two, three, four, five, six."

I thought I was in the presence of the smartest 2-year-old ever. I asked her how old she was.

"Five."

Nope, kid. Try again.

"Three."

She has a birthday coming up, so I figured that's close enough.

Geeks

I contributed three things to bar trivia last night.

One, I knew the name of an Eminem song. Two, I knew what comic book movie started with the letter "V" (it's Venom) and I knew a question about Avengers: Infinity War.

My thought this morning when I woke up: Thank God for my brother. At least I know something important about life because of him.

Pieces

I may, allegedly, have a pretty good idea of what one of my Christmas gifts is.

I've been listening to his music because I'm pretty sure Santa is bringing me his concert tickets this year.

I've seen Gary Allan live in Wichita a couple of times when I was in college. I'm finding that listening to music from 15 years ago* brings back a lot of memories.

*= I typed 10 years at first, then I realized that college graduation was 10 years ago. The actual 'college' part of college started 15 years ago. (15?!?!?)

Pieces

I’ve been broken, torn and scattered
I’ve loved holy, I’ve loved sin
I was rolling on the wind
It didn’t matter
I was so sure of who I didn’t want to be
Every smile and every fear
Every laugh and every tear
It was all me, it was all me
Pieces of my heart
Pieces of my soul
Pieces that I’m gonna be
I don’t even know
I gave a lot to lovers
Gave a lot to friends
Everything I took from them
Made me who I am
Pieces
We’ve all been lied to
We’ve all been liars
Nothing’s perfect in this world
Everybody’s been burned by the fire
Guess I’m learning
That what breaks you, makes you grow
But I’m not hiding where I’ve been
Gonna let the light shine in
What I don’t need
Gonna let that, let that, let that go
Pieces of my heart
Pieces of my soul
Pieces that I’m gonna be
I don’t even know
I gave a lot to lovers
Gave a lot to friends
Everything I took from them
Made me who I am
Pieces, the good and the bad
Pieces, the happy and sad
Pieces, the wrong and the right
Pieces, that’s my, that’s my, that’s my life
Pieces of my heart
Pieces of my soul
Pieces that I’m gonna be
I don’t even know
I gave a lot to lovers
Gave a lot to friends
Everything I took from them
Made me who I am
Pieces
Pieces, pieces

"Let's talk about Christmas."

I was sitting in my Mom and Dad's living room when my favorite little red head crawled onto my lap.

"Monica," little red head says. "Let's talk about Christmas."

Little girl told me she wanted a pretty dress and a pink snowman.

I asked her what color of dress she wanted. Please note that I've already hit the stores pretty hard for little girl dresses, and the only colors to be found now are red, gold, black and plaid.

Little red head: "I want a rainbow dress."

Me: "Well, little L, they don't make rainbow dresses. Do you have another color that you want?"

Little girl eventually told me she wanted a dark blue dress.

A couple of minutes later, the wheels started turning in her head and she continued the conversation.

"Monica, how many dresses does Santa have?"

Me: "He probably has a lot of dresses for little girls like you."

Little L: "Then how come he doesn't have a rainbow dress?"

Little L got me. I had no idea what to say, because I just told her that Santa has everything, which in her mind, includes rainbow dresses.

SANTA DOESN'T MAKE RAINBOW DRESSES BECAUSE TARGET DOESN'T MAKE THEM, KID.

Please note that after I wrote this, I hit online shopping pretty hard. Little L is getting a rainbow dress.

Do the stars shine brighter there?

Reaching For The Sky

There's a boy I used to know
He was always searching high and low

Others looked and wondered why
He said I am reaching for the sky

They say good will come to those who wait
Don't think too big just know your place

People don't belong in clouds or space
It's just an empty quest for ego's sake

He said I'll be reaching for the sky
I have to see how high it goes

While others they won't even try
I'll be reaching for the sky

Do the stars shine brighter there?
Can you really walk on air?

If other men have reached the moon
Saturn's rings could be mine soon

I'll be reaching for the sky
'Cause I have to know how high it goes

While others they won't even try
I'll be reaching for the sky
