Pickles, why are you eating spaghetti?

There are certain things I never thought I'd say out loud.

Among them: Pickles, why are you eating spaghetti?

Pickles, my little black Pug, along with her two Pug buddies and I, made the 400-round trip mile to go home over the weekend.

Pickles celebrated by being the life of the party. She had some spaghetti and birthday cake, loved on my brother's three kids, and snored all the way home.

City Pickles or County Pickles

Can I brag on my little Pickles for a second? We went to Wichita yesterday to volunteer for a couple of different non-profits. She was perfect the entire time.

We went to Petco in between volunteering gigs and picked out a new bed. She greeted people and dogs in the store like she had been doing it her whole life.
My favorite thing about this little monster is that she's versatile. She could be a city Pickles or a country Pickles. She really doesn't care, as long as she's with me.
She turned out to be an excellent dog. The world needs more people and dogs like Pickles in it.

Lost little Pickle

Last Friday night, I was hanging out in my house and watching tv.

The dogs were outside. They like being outside at night, and they actually bug me if I make them stay inside when I get home from work.

So the fur children were hanging out and being dogs outside.

Around dark, I went to let them in.

The fawn children were outside sleeping by each other. They woke up when I hollered at them, and they both came inside.

But the black fur child did not come inside.

Sometimes she falls asleep in whatever random hole she dug that day, and I have to go around looking for her. I walked all over my backyard looking for Pickles, and my heart sank when I saw that one of my gates was wide open.

OH MY GOD.

I asked the neighbor kids if they had seen my dog, and they said they had not.

I called my Mom in a panic, and then told her to come over right away.

My next order of business was to check Facebook, because that's what you do when dogs get lost.

There was a post that was a minute old. A family had found a cute little black dog by the country club.

Um, the country club is a mile from my house. ONE MILE AWAY.

I left my phone number with the lady and waited for her to call me. Not even a minute later, my cell phone rang.

I dropped everything, grabbed my keys and went to get my dumbass escapee.

Pickles ran away to the right house. When I pulled up and parked across the street, they had given her food and water and were loving on her.

Pickles ran up to me, wagged her tail, and started kissing me.

I thought, dog, if you missed me then why did you run away?

I used to make fun of people who lost their dogs. Now, I have a dog who will bolt out of doors and gates if given the chance and 2 seconds to do it.

I'm extremely lucky that I found her.

Also, my gates now have shiny new locks on them and I check on the fur kids when they're outside without me.

I'm so sorry. I'll never run away again.
Lol jk, I'll totally do it again.

An agile Pickle

For the first four weeks of dog agility class, my little black Pug wasn't very thrilled about it.

There were times I thought about staying home because she hated it so much.

But we soldiered on, going every week, even though her tail was down and she acted scared of everything.

Last night, for the first time in a month, I took her leash off of her and we ran the agility course.

She did amazing!

The first run through she did pretty good. Like I told the instructor, her biggest flaw is that she doesn't listen to me off-leash. I don't know how many times I chased her through my neighborhood in the past year when she bolted out the door.

The second time we went off leash was a little rougher, but funny.

At the end of the night, Pickles the black Pug was tired. She sat down in the middle of the course. She went to the stairs to try to leave. If she wanted to sniff a spot five feet away, she did.

And when the instructor and I tried to get her attention, she ran to us wagging her tail. Like, 'Oh, I remember what I'm supposed to be doing!'

My Pickle has the attention span of a gnat. And, it's totally adorable.

It's also her job to tell every single person and every single dog hello in class.

I call her the welcoming committee. She's pretty good at her job.

In a pickle

Pickles the Bug got promoted to a real dog today.

She got to spend the afternoon out of her kennel.

She looks sorry for eating my couch, using my house as her bathroom, and tearing up toilet paper for no good reason, right?

We'll see what my house looks like in a few hours.
